Procedure for borrowing and returning equipment

As a Media Student, you have the privilege of borrowing expensive, industry standard equipment to film your title sequence. With this privilege comes responsibility and it is important that you respect the procedures for borrowing equipment.

If you are borrowing equipment to film out of lesson time (in the evenings or over the weekends) then you MUST follow the quick, but very important, procedures for picking up and returning equipment outlined below.

Failure to follow these procedures, or to bring the equipment back in the condition it was in when you borrowed it, can result in you not being allowed to borrow equipment for your filming sessions.

Collecting Equipment

1. arrive at the technicians' office with signed green equipment slip from your teacher

2. the name on the booking form MUST be the same name of the student picking up equipment, it must have a corresponding mobile contact number and they must have their Media ID card

3. make sure that you have your memory cards with you for filming

4. wait to be given the equipment

5. if you are sharing the responsibility of borrowing equipment within your group, be clear who is collecting and who is returning which equipment.

Returning Equipment

1. if returning equipment separately within the group, you MUST be clear who is responsible for returning which equipment. As a group you share responsibility for ALL equipment borrowed and it must ALL be back by the time stated.

2. you MUST turn up on time to return equipment. In the morning this is 8.45 AM. Cameras need to be available for lessons starting at 9am. Late returns will incur penalties and you may not be able to borrow equipment again.

3. you MUST only give equipment back to the technicians or a media teacher in the technician's office

4. you MUST wait whilst the technicians check off each piece of equipment you have returned. Never leave equipment in the office without it being checked.

5. the returns process is only complete when the equipment has been checked by the technicians and the green booking form signed off by them - you must allow up to 15 minutes for returns at busy times

If you have any queries or questions about these procedures you can ask your teacher, one of our lovely technicians or come and find me, Louisa, in room 315 or during workshop on Monday and Friday lunchtime.
